Fiercely Confident!

“You is Kind. You is Smart. You is Important.” Who doesn’t remember that from the film, “The Help?”

All of us need to be reminded of this at any age.

Oh boy, (why isn’t it oh girl)? Here I am schooling my Fiercely50ish peeps about confidence and my mind is racing with self-doubt and second-guessing. Of course, it could be the two ginormous cups of coffee I just drank. Or it simply could be how excited I am to share the potency of confidence. It is the fuel that propels us forward and keeps us going. No. Matter. What.

Own It, Girrrrrrrrrrrrrlssss

Think about your most confident moments in your life. What do they look like? What were you doing? How did you feel? If you’re like me I will review my confident moments in my mind and back them up with pictures. Bet you’re thinking this is a Hallmark moment.

Sorry to disappoint. Before I assumed the role of confidence creator,I would immediately start the self smack talk dialogue. What is it about the female species that we constantly critique (the root word for criticize), close our minds and go all Chicken Little on EVERYTHING we do? By the way, that was a rhetorical question.

“S-T-O-P” this senseless self smack talk. Regroup. Redirect. Re-imagine. Breathe.

Starting at this moment, I’m here to tell you different. Confidence is the new fierce. Really, it is.

Confidence, What do You Look Like?

That’s a great question. Here’s what I think confidence looks like:

  • A smile
  • Getting out of bed
  • Looking someone straight in the whites of their eyes
  • Speaking to be heard
  • A new outfit
  • Preparing a meal
  • A manicure
  • A pedicure (you knew that was next)
  • A hug
  • Going to a fitness class
  • Fulfilling a promise
  • Choosing to end a destructive relationship
  • Leaving an unrewarding job
  • Taking charge
  • Making the right choice
  • Opening your mind
  • Living your purpose

As you can clearly see, the confidence list is endless.

Dig deep. Remember, we have earned the right to be confident.  How did we get to be where we are today? Lots of work, patience and yes, confidence. It’s in you. Allow yourself permission to find it, dust it off and use it every day. You’ll be amazed as to what the universe has in store for you when you lead with confidence!

Celebrate your confidence! You no longer wear your shoulders as earrings!  You are exactly where you need to be and are ready to take on midlife with both style and grace.

“You is kind. You is smart. You is important.”
